gas plaring in ijawlandoil_fire

Gas flaring in the Ijawland is a major cause of global warming on the planet. Over 40 years of gas flaring and environmental pollution from oil spills has turned the once beautiful and pristine natural environment of our Ijawland into a wasteland. Farmlands are contaminated, thereby preventing the local farmers from making a living off the land. The rivers, lakes and lagoons are contaminted with regular and constant oil spillages, leading to a drastic reduction of marine life, which prevents the fishermen and women from making a living out of there natural environment. The Ijaw people whose main occupation is fishing, are today buying frozen imported fish to feed their families. The multinational oil companies and the Nigerian authorities has not shown any care or concern over the years for the health, well being and safety of the indigenes of the Niger Delta, as rusted, damaged and defective equipment are not repaired.
