The multinational oil companies operating in the Niger Delta do not respect international health and safety regulations. Rusted and damaged oil pipelines are not regularly maintained or repaired. The environment and the people are exposed to great danger as there are frequent accidents, and many people are killed or injured. This is an unacceptable situation because the local indigenes do not benefit either in infractural development or financially from the oil and gas exploration in their land.
